More Than 10 Businesses In Hoboken Chambord Fire Seek Help

HOBOKEN, NJ — After two people lost their lives and several small businesses were damaged in a fire at the Hoboken Chambord factory building on Monday, at least a dozen artists and small businesses have launched fundraisers to try to rebuild. But they say they face many unknowns. READ MORE: Prosecutor Releases Victim's Name In Hoboken Fire Business owners said this week that they were frustrated with the lack of information about the future of their location, and are hoping to find out if they can salvage what they can of their business. "The building is inaccessible until further notice, and we have no way of knowing how much damage was caused to the unit," said a business owner this week. Besides the list of fundraisers and businesses that are requesting help below, the city is also collecting funds for affected businesses through the HobokenReliefFund.com. Our hearts break for you as we know your pain." They identified on Tuesday one of the victims: Rosemarie Vos, 60. A 61-year-old man was also lost. The Prosecutor's Office would not say Tuesday where Vos lived or if she had a business in the building. The fire at 38 Jackson St. in Hoboken — which houses the Chambord artistic wallpaper company and other small businesses, but no residences — began around midnight, officials said. The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office released this information late Monday night: "On Monday, Dec. 20, at approximately 12:20 a.m., a Hoboken Police Officer while on patrol heard a loud explosion in the area of Jackson Street in Hoboken. First responders to the area found an active fire in a warehouse located at 38 Jackson St. "The Hoboken Fire Department responded and was assisted in extinguishing the fire by the Jersey City Fire Department and the North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Department. The fire damaged several surrounding buildings and several of the building sustained severe water damage. The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is pending. "During fire suppression activities, firefighters found two victims in the warehouse. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The cause and manner of death of the victims are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner's Office. The Regional Arson Task Force is actively investigating this incident with assistance from the Hoboken Fire Department and Hoboken Police Department. JerseyDigs had reported last summer that a developer was in the process of purchasing the property.
