COVID Case Count Climbs In Chatham Borough: Report

CHATHAM, NJ — On the same day that New Jersey announced its highest COVID case count, Chatham Borough reported that within the past week, the borough had 168 new and positive coronavirus cases. In its most recent update released on Thursday, the borough said the new positive coronavirus cases were counted between Dec. 15 and 22, the age range between 2 and 65. This raises the borough's total number of positive cases to 669 for the year, with 914 since the start of pandemic. Between Dec. 1 and Dec. 14, Chatham Borough had 60 new positive cases, the age range between 1 and 86. Since the pandemic start, there have been 914 COVID cases in the borough, according to their latest announcement. In total, Chatham Borough has faced 14 hospitalizations and 11 fatalities since the pandemic's beginning. Borough Administrator Steve Williams wrote Thursday afternoon, in his commentary accompanying the borough's latest announcement on the pandemic overall, that statewide, New Jersey had 15,482 new cases on Thursday, the highest yet. "This week was the first week since the pandemic's start that we averaged 6,000 cases a day," he wrote. The holidays, Williams said, have been complicating the ability for people to get tested for COVID. "Along with masking and staying home when sick, vaccination remains the most important tool we have," he wrote.
