PITTSBURGH, PA — Joseph Tedder hid in plain sight as a Family Dollar employee in the city while being wanted by authorities in connection with a drug-related homicide in Texas, authorities said. Tedder, 22, of Hutchinson, Kansas, was apprehended Wednesday by the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office. Pittsburgh police were called to the Family Dollar on the North Side by a manager who wanted to terminate an employee for shoplifting and wanted to ensure the firing occurred without incident. Tedder fled the store when he saw police approaching. Investigating Tedder's background, police found that he was being sought by Austin police in connection with a homicide there in November. According to the complaint, Tedder and two other men had gone to an apartment with plans to sell drugs. The two other men stayed in the vehicle as Tedder went in to make the sale; they heard gunshots shortly after Tedder entered the building and then found a man believed to be dead in a stairwell. City officers contacted the sheriff's office, who tracked down Tedder at the North Side home of a man believed to be his brother. Tedder was taken into custody without incident. He is being held in the county jail on the warrant from Texas, but will be arraigned on fugitive from justice charges as well, according to the sheriff's office. Tedder also will face shoplifting charges. Be the first to know what's happening in your community and region.
