NASHUA, NH — The Board of Aldermen approved a temporary mask requirement for indoor public use Tuesday night.
This regulation will be in effect through Jan. 31, 2022.
The Board of Health initially proposed the temporary mask requirement to the Board of Aldermen based on the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, the Delta variant, and the more recent cases of the Omicron variant across the state.
Officials say transmission of these viruses is expected to skyrocket after the upcoming holiday season.
In a meeting, the Board of Health and Public Health officials expressed their concerns regarding COVID-19. Bobbie Bagley, Director of Health and Community Services, outlined the current status of COVID-19, Delta, and Omicron variant cases locally, and the need for continued vigilance with wearing masks, getting vaccinations, and boosters, and social distancing when possible.
The BOA voted 121 to initiate the month-long requirement for indoor masking where social distancing is not possible. The Public Health office reiterates its urging of those not fully vaccinated to do so, and get booster shots if applicable.
