RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Over the last week, the number of Riverside County residents hospitalized with the coronavirus rose by 61 people to 369 on Thursday. The total reflects 81 patients in intensive care units, according to Riverside University Health System.
Another 4,837 new COVID-19 cases were detected in the county this week. A total of 390,065 cases have been recorded in the county since the pandemic began, RUHS data show.
The number of new cases detected in the county has risen since the Thanksgiving holiday, and the omicron variant is present, according to county data.
A total of 5,554 COVID-19 deaths have been recorded in the county. The figure is up by 31 deaths reported over the last week. The fatalities are trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates and can go back weeks, according to RUHS officials.
Of county residents 5 years of age and older, 58 percent are fully vaccinated against the virus. Just 20.3 percent of residents 16 and older have received their booster, RUHS data show.

Amid the rising number of new COVID-19 cases, face masks are required to be worn in indoor public spaces, regardless of vaccination status. The mandate is across Riverside County and the state.
