LA GRANGE, IL — Five days ago, a GoFundMe page was set up for Lyons Township High School senior Cole Lagowski, who lost his parents. As of Thursday morning, nearly $160,000 had been raised in the effort. "We have never met, but your story moved me as a mother of high school boys that also play football," one of the many donors, Angela Riccelli, said on the page. "May you find strength during this time. Stay in school, stay in sports, and know you are loved." "I knew Cole from third to eighth grade. He was, and still is, an amazing kid," donor Jaime Patriquin said. "He has always held a special place in my heart. I know he will achieve great things." The amount raised so far well exceeds La Grange's median household income of $123,000. As of Thursday, the top donations were one for $3,000 and two for $2,000. All three were anonymous. In all, the effort has drawn 1,700 donations. Ten days before Christmas, Lagowski's father, John, died. His mother, Robin, died in April 2020, according to the GoFundMe page. He played football for the school. Patch's first story about the situation appeared Tuesday. Cordelia Coppleson set up the GoFundMe page. Editor's Note: Patch is a GoFundMe promotional partner.
