HUNTLEY, IL — A 24-year-old Huntley man has been named as a person of interest in the triple homicide of a man and his two sons in Belvidere over the weekend. Alize Q. Smith was being held in the Boone County Jail on an unrelated charge, the Associated Press reported. Police in Belvidere announced earlier this week that Andrew Hintt, 31, and his two sons, ages 5 and 7, were discovered dead in their home on Sunday. The county medical examiner determined the cause of death to be homicide after the three were found shot to death. Smith was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals, who, along with Belvidere police detectives searched Smith's home in the 1100 block of Timer Drive in Huntley on Tuesday, according to reports. Belvidere Police Chief Shane Woody said that several pieces of evidence were collected at Smith's home. Smith was arrested on a parole violation and Illinois Department of Corrections records indicate that the Smith was convicted of armed robbery in 2016 for holding up a loan store in McHenry with a BB gun and served four years in prison, Shaw Media reported. At the time, he was also facing charges for holding up a 7-Eleven in Huntley a week earlier. He was also sentenced for two years of mandatory supervised release with a recommendation for boot camp. His attorney said he was afraid his client may not qualify or be able to complete boot camp because he had Type 1 diabetes, the Associated Press reported.
