HAWTHORNE, CA — In the largest known coronavirus outbreak in Los Angeles, at least 132 people have tested positive for COVID-19 at SpaceX Corporate Headquarters in Hawthorne, according to public health officials.
The total number of confirmed cases was released by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and indicates the number of people who have tested positive since September, The Los Angeles Times reports.
The company reported to its employees that "several employees who work in the same area contracted COVID outside of work at a non-work-related event."
As of Monday, the company now accounts for nearly 30 percent of workplace COVID-19 cases in the county, NPR reports.
Nearly 6,000 people are employed by the company, which is led by Elon Musk.
"These data are dynamic and may not reflect real-time investigation counts for these settings," according to public health officials. "Data will change based on daily information gathered by public health investigators overseeing, supervising, and closing each investigation."
In July 2020, more than 130 Tesla workers at the Fremont assembly plant tested positive for coronavirus.
SpaceX is located at 1 Rocket Rd, Hawthorne.
