Oregon COVID-19 Caseload Continues Rising Again, 1,350 New Cases

PORTLAND, OR — Any dreams of COVID-19 starting to fade in Oregon are over as the number of new cases is rising quickly. After several days of the number of new cases staying in the hundreds, the Oregon Health Authority reports that there were 1,350 new cases reported on Wednesday. That brings the total since the pandemic started to 410,565. Meanwhile, the state said that there were eight more deaths. Oregon has now seen 5,598 people die. Breakthrough cases continue to be a problem. OHA said that about a third of newly reported cases last week occurred in people who had received all of their vaccine shots. Not that there's any good news about breakthrough cases but the state reports that breakthrough cases have a very low mortality rate. Only 1.3 percent of people who have had a breakthrough case in Oregon have died. As for the 1,350 new cases, they were spread out among 34 of the state's 36 counties.
