Description

David Berkowitz is a contemporary artist born in Chicago, who knows how to harmonize nature and technology. David feels that now more than ever - with COVID-19 raging - artistic creation is necessary, because art can calm the general discouragement. And with this eagerness David Berkowitz Chicago faces his artwork, so that the viewer can contemplate the author's commitment to man, his existence and his circumstances. Before we begin, we want to thank David Berkowitz Chicago for answering the questions in our unique interview, and dedicating that little bit of his day to us. We invite you to enjoy his words and visit  his online gallery at Pictorem, and on his website. Q: Do you have a role model? Any artist or person who inspired or motivated you to follow this path? David Berkowitz Chicago: I have many role models, but more than names I cite you attitudes, that is, I have as role models all those underappreciated artists who, although with all the difficulties that they've had throughout history, have continued with their work and perseverance, in their creative work. Now, all these artists are being vindicated and brought to light. Q: How were your beginnings in the art world? David Berkowitz Chicago: I do not remember a beginning, it is something that has always interested me and I have carried with me. On a professional level I began to exhibit somewhere in my twenties, which is also when I began to present myself to artistic residencies, competitions and scholarships. It has not been easy at all, nor is it, but I can't stop doing it. Q: The vocation of the artist… Tell us about your work and your creative inspiration. David Berkowitz Chicago: Focusing my research on disciplines such as painting, installation and digital creation, I interpret space and geography with both geometric and gestural structures in an abstract way, with the aim of expressing my emotions in relation to each place. I am interested in complexity, chaos, opposing elements and their original relationship with other individuals and the cosmos, and I base my process on tacit knowledge, that is, from direct experience. I physically travel the territory, integrating maps, sensations and sounds, sharpening intuition and imagination. So from analogies established between my perception, the experiences in certain moments and places and the form, I build the works with the intention of generating a personal universe where I can analyze, reflect and know. Q: What techniques do you use and why did you decide to use them? David Berkowitz Chicago: I use different materials, I like to try new things; I have done works from stained glass, ceramics, things in metal, in acrylic and within painting, working in various techniques, learning new, experimenting and playing with materials. Q: Any word you want to dedicate to our readers? David Berkowitz Chicago: First, I thank you for this interview and I encourage your readers to see contemporary art and soak up the culture. Thanks again, David! We will continue to be fans of your art and highlight the importance of what you are trying to communicate.
