City of Portland, Maine MAINTENANCE WORKER II-ISLANDS Public Works Department – Island Services Division - Up to $2,500 Sign on Bonus Available – The Department of Public Works seeks a qualified applicant to join the City’s Islands crew. Main location will be Peaks Island and may be required to do work on the other City Islands when required. Successful applicant must be available for winter operations from November thru April and must be available to work a weekend shift during the summer months. Requirements: Thorough knowledge of the functions and operating methods of a wide variety of heavy and complex construction equipment related to Public Works functions; knowledge of hazards and applicable safety rules and regulations when operating this equipment; ability to make minor repairs; good visual acuity for driving and physical strength, agility and stamina necessary to withstand exposure to adverse climatic conditions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and members of the public. Requirements: Valid Maine Class B driver’s license (must provide license number) or can be hired as Maintenance Worker I with valid Maine Class C license and ability to obtain Class B within six (6) months; must pass pre-employment medical exam and fitness assessment; must pass federally mandated drug test; must have and maintain a good driving record. Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check. Preference will be given to Peaks Island residents.
