The hedgehog in the first two photos is what she currently looks like; it was taken on December 22, 2021.*** The Long Version (if you're interested): On October 4th, our female hedgehog had a litter of hoglets. We believe there were originally 3-4. (Since a new mother cannot be disturbed, we're not sure if there were more.) A few days later, while refilling mom's food, we heard squeaking and saw the mother had killed all but two of the babies. The babies were immediately removed from her cage and placed in a temporary, heated container. They were kept warm and fed goat's milk every two and half hours until feeding amounts could be increased. Eventually wet, solid food was introduced and they were old enough to stay in a larger cage (that we purchased for them). Most hedgehogs aren't the most social creatures (from our experience with mom and dad), but since the babies have only known humans and have been handled from the very beginning, they are friendlier. We had one male and one female. The male has been adopted and is a fantastic personal and class pet. The female is now eating completely dry food and is ready for her forever home. The female does get startled a little more easily by loud noises and changes of scenery, but she is still really sweet and will make someone very happy. The mom and dad both have their own cage and we are not going to attempt anymore litters, so she will come with the cage and supplies that were purchased for her and her brother. (The adoption fee is to help make-up for some of the costs we incurred from the goat milk formula and cage we had to purchase.)
