Join food writer and chef-instructor Shawnie Kelley as she guides you through techniques for making recipes considered significant during the Chinese New Year celebration and meant to bring good fortune. We begin with handmade pork and vegetable-filled dumplings symbolizing prosperity and wealth. We will fire up the fancy wok stations to stir-fry long noodles with chicken and bok choy in a gingery sauce to ensure longevity in life. Our third dish — Jai, nicknamed Buddha’s Delight — is a rice and vegetable dish stir-fried in a rich, aromatic mushroom-based sauce meant to bring good health. Class ends with tasty almond cookies, round like coins, symbolizing wealth and good luck. A glass of wine is included as you enjoy your meal at the end of class.
