Description

The season of Christmas, New Years and several other holidays is a reason to extend warmth and kindness to those near and far. Again, this year, we cannot always be physically together. It makes us grateful for Zoom gatherings and social media. Traditional cards, notes, phone calls, and email work well also. The Wakefield Sons & Daughters of Italy have used it all and have managed to stay in touch or send kind gestures as best we can. The Lodge was happy to be able to sponsor a Boys & Girls Club family at Christmas time with a donation that allowed the purchase of gifts. Additionally, many individual members gave to the Club, because currently there are many families in need. It was a special December meeting because members were able to gather in-person and enjoy Christmas dinner. As per tradition, the dinner consisted of Chinese food. The meeting began with a welcome to a few guests and some visitors from other lodges. State President Denise Furnari was in attendance along with State Past Presidents Kevin Caira and Florence Ferullo Guidara. Discussion included the upcoming charity auction scheduled for April 19 at St. Joseph's parish hall. Since the meeting was held at the Wakefield Elks, members were able to purchase "cheer" at the bar and toast being together. Dinner was followed by sweet treats, and no one left hungry. Thanks to all who participated in the Grand Lodge January calendar raffle fund raiser. Our lodge sold more than 200 calendars. We cannot wait to hear who wins the 35 prizes. This fund raiser helps defray the lodge's membership costs, so we can put more money towards our charitable endeavors. If you were lucky enough to buy or be gifted a calendar, good luck! As mentioned before, we will not be meeting in January nor February of 2022, but look for an announcement about our March 8, 2022 meeting at the Wakefield Elks. Our guest speaker will be Pam Donnaruma, publisher of the Italian-American Voice of Massachusetts, the Post-Gazette. Please contact President Paula about joining this meeting or joining the Lodge at [email protected]. To see more photos and updates, check out the Lodge's Facebook page. Buon Natale and Felice Anno Nuovo!
