WESTPORT, CT — A person "exhibiting erratic behavior and making idle threats" resulted in an increased police presence at two Westport elementary schools Wednesday afternoon, according to district officials. In an email to families around 2 p.m., Superintendent Thomas Scarice said a Kings Highway Elementary School administrator noticed the unidentified person walking along the Post Road and, after observing their behavior, immediately reported the incident to Westport police. The department quickly sent officers to the Kings Highway campus, as well as the nearby Saugatuck Elementary School, Scarice said. "The [Westport Police Department] has determined that there is no immediate threat to either school," Scarice said in an email, "but, as a precaution, have assigned officers to remain at the schools for the rest of the day. You may notice officers in the surrounding neighborhoods as well this afternoon." Scarice also thanked Westport police for their swift response.
