NORTH HAVEN, CT — Four people were arrested in connection with an investigation into stolen vehicles involving East Haven, North Haven and West Haven, according to police.
North Haven police responded to the area of Beechwood Drive on Tuesday morning on the report of a vehicle being stolen, according to officials.
An investigation found that a Honda stolen from East Haven around 5:30 a.m. was used by the suspects to go to North Haven and steal a BMW on Beechwood Drive, according to police. The BMW wasn't found, but the stolen Honda from East Haven crashed as officers arrived, police said.
A 16-year-old girl was taken into custody and a second suspect fled from the Honda and wasn't found, according to police.
"As a precaution, officers were placed at nearby Ridge Road School while a K-9 track for the suspect was conducted," North Haven police wrote in a post on Facebook. "Several hours later the stolen BWM from North Haven was located in West Haven."
An 18-year-old, a 16-year-old, and a 14-year-old were taken into custody, according to police.
Police said coordination between East Haven, West Haven, Hamden, and North Haven led to the arrest of one adult and three juveniles for various charges in each respective town.
"We remind everyone to secure their vehicles and do not leave them running to warm up as the mornings get colder," police said. "While the victim is never to blame, take as many precautions as you can to make yourself a harder target."
