Written by Michael P. Walsh WEST HAVEN, CT — Mayor Nancy R. Rossi and author Dan Shine autographed more copies of the centennial book, "City of West Haven: Village to Town," during a book-signing event at the Main Library on Monday night. With Christmas just days away, local history buffs, including old-time Westies Carol Gunning and Donald and Eleanor Froehlich, waited in line to buy a signed copy of the $20 paperback and exchange pleasantries with Shine and Rossi. The 90-minute event, held in the Sacco Room of the Elm Street library, also offered WestHavenOpoly, the centennial version of the board game Monopoly, for $30. The book, printed in partnership with GHP Media of West Haven and released in late September, chronicles the stories and photos that shaped the community's past 100 years. The information was sourced from the "Historian's Corner" series written by Shine, one of the foremost authorities on West Haven history. The 116-page historical work has black-and-white and full-color photos and was commissioned by the City of West Haven Centennial Celebration Committee to commemorate the community's 1921 birth and its incorporation by the General Assembly as Connecticut's youngest town, said Rossi, the committee's honorary chairwoman. Committee Chairwoman Beth A. Sabo said the book and board game make perfect holiday gifts. The book and game are available for purchase while supplies last in the Department of Human Resources at City Hall, 355 Main St., or by calling Sabo, the commissioner of human resources, at 203-937-3558. The book is also available by sending a $24 check — $20 for the book, $4 for shipping — to Commissioner Beth Sabo, City of West Haven, Department of Human Resources, 355 Main St., West Haven 06516. Make checks payable to West Haven Centennial.
