GREENDALE, WI — The Greendale Village Board approved a re-development proposal on Tuesday that would bring hundreds of apartments and thousands of square feet of retail space to the former site of Boston Store near Southridge Mall, according to a news release from the village. The development would create up to 790 apartments comprised of one, two and three-bedroom units with underground parking plus 50,000 square feet of retail space. The proposal would eliminate the former department store and seeks to improve the vitality of Southridge, attract new residents and overall create a new tax base for the village, the news release said. The proposal comes from Barret Lo Visionary Development, a company that the village says has a track record of success in helping communities create "destination" developments, according to the news release. "The Village has always looked for ways to improve the Southridge Mall Area and the 76th Street Business Corridor," the village news release said. "We will continue to work with property owners in the Mall area to continue the effort that led to the revitalization of the Southridge Mall area."
