Man Arrested For Trespassing At Woolworth Mansion: Police

GLEN COVE, NY—On Tuesday, a 20-year-old Queens man was arrested for what police say was trespassing on the grounds of the Woolworth Mansion. The Glen Cove Police department spotted the man, whose name was not released, on the site's security cameras around 1:30 p.m. The man attempted to flee and was arrested shortly after. He is charged with Criminal Trespassing in the 2nd degree, and is accused of entering one of the property's buildings. He will be arraigned in Cove Court on Jan. 4th, 2022. The Woolworth Mansion, at 77 Crescent Beach Road, is a Gilded Age historic estate built in 1916 by Frank Woolworth, founder of the retail chain. The property is for sale, for just under $10 million, after sitting empty since 2003 and failing to sell at several auctions. But Detective Lt. John Nagle of the Glen Clove Police Department reminds the curious that the property is fully-surveilled and is not open to the public. "If you want to check out the property and are thinking about purchasing it, see the appropriate real estate agent and set up an appointment. If you think you will just enter the property or the mansion without the proper permission, you will be arrested. The entire property is under 24-hour video surveillance and has security deterrents throughout the property," he said in a statement.
