NORTH HAVEN, CT — A 14-year-old student at Aces Mill Road School in North Haven was arrested Tuesday in connection with a threatening email earlier this month, according to police. Police were notified Dec. 4 of an email threatening violence at the school, indicating that it would take place on the morning of Dec. 6, according to officials. "Officers and detectives worked quickly to begin tracing the origins of the email, and a suspect was quickly developed," police wrote in a post on Facebook. "The suspect, who was a student, was not allowed to return to school and enhanced safety measures and added police personnel were present on the morning of 12/6." The 14-year-old girl was arrested Dec. 21 following an investigation, according to police. "Around this same time we also responded to complaints of an Instagram account which was concerning to parents and school staff at North Haven public schools," police said. "The account was similar in nature to an Instagram account that had made direct threats of violence to a neighboring school, and was believed to be a 'copycat' account, to invoke fear and potentially be used to deliver threats of violence. The account had not yet posted any message, but was causing disruption and concern among parents, students, and the BOE." Police identified a 13-year-old girl as the person who created the account. "They, along with their parents, were interviewed," police said. "It was determined criminal charges would not be appropriate considering the lack of a direct threat, coupled with information gathered during the investigation/interview. "These incidents occurred during a time when numerous schools throughout CT were experiencing threats of violence. We want to remind everyone that the North Haven Police Department takes any threat to our students and staff seriously, and will work with the BOE and other local partners to identify those responsible while ensuring the safety and security of our students and staff."
