Welcome to the Sacramento Daily Patch Newsletter! This is where you will find all of the best news and events happening in Sacramento for Thursday, December 23rd! First, today's weather: Periods of rain. High: 55 Low: 48. Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: Northern California will be getting the rain and snow it needs to climb out of a serious drought, but the timing may wrinkle some holiday travel plans. Up to half an inch of rain has already fallen in the valley with 1-3 inches of potential valley rain possible through Christmas. The intensity of rain and snow will also pick up early Thursday with some slowing very late Thursday. Then, late Christmas Eve on Friday to Christmas Day on Saturday the storm picks up again with lowering snow levels to about 3,000 feet or lower. We can expect 60-80 total inches of snow over the mountain passes this week and into the holiday weekend. (ABC10) Sacramento's Tower Bridge is broken and there's no estimated time for it to be fixed. Caltrans says the electrical supply to the bridge's main motor went out late friday night, which means the drawbridge is stuck in the down position. That means you can drive across it, but don't try to sail under it. Caltrans says the motor and broken electrical equipment dates back to the 1930s when the bridge first opened. It was due to be replaced next summer. (CBS Sacramento)A dream has come true for a Sacramento 10-year-old with a genetic disorder who loves all things law enforcement. Devin particularly loves the bright flashing lights, sirens from law enforcement vehicles and shiny badges, so he wished for a cop bike and uniform. Monday, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, through Make-A-Wish, made Devin's dream a reality, with a branded scooter, polo and an official sheriff's badge. Devin even got to ride his new scooter around the department headquarters, side-by-side with fellow deputies. (KCRA3)The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced an $81 million loan to the Sacramento County Water Agency in northern California to modernize the county's water infrastructure and help make the water supply more climate-resilient. The loan will help Sacramento County meet current fire protection standards and water metering by financing a portion of the cost to install 30 miles of new distribution pipeline, 260 fire hydrants and 3,000 new water meters. (FOX40) Through redistricting, three sitting members of Congress were drawn into the same new district that includes downtown Sacramento. In an unusual game of musical chairs, they all still plan to run for re-election. District 6 Rep. Doris Matsui (D) who's been in Congress since 2005, wasted no time making her move. "I will run for re-election in '22 in the newly drawn CD07," Matsui announced. Hours after Matsui's announcement, Ami Bera (D), from Elk Grove who is the current rep for District 7 announced plans to run for re-election in District 6. The third Democrat drawn into the new District 7 is Rep. John Garamendi (D). He's from Walnut Grove. Garamendi announced his intent to run in the new District 8. In his announcement, he promised to fight for progressive values for the district. He's also making plans to move.
