PLAINFIELD, IL — Three seniors and one junior at Plainfield School District 202 high schools took home top prizes at two local art shows. Three of the students placed at this year's Plainfield Art League "Best of the Best" High School Show — an open house took place at the Jon W. Balke Student Art Gallery in the district's administrative center Dec. 1 — and one student won at Joliet Junior College's annual Joliet Area High School Awards Dec. 9. At the Plainfield competition, Plainfield East High School senior Kendall Haupt won first place for her watercolor titled "Gentle Spirit." Plainfield Central High School senior Catherine "Kati" Rambo earned second place for her graphite pencil drawing titled "Just Stay This Little," while Plainfield Central junior Grace Leeth won third place for her graphite pencil drawing "Anatomy Lesson." Haupt and Rambo each won a $100 scholarship and will have their work showcased at the Naperville Art League show March 9-12. Leeth won a $50 scholarship and will serve as an alternate for the Naperville show. At the Joliet Area High School Awards, Plainfield South High School senior Vivianne Angulo took home the top prize, winning first place for her sculpture "Blossoming 2." Leeth also placed in this competition, taking third place for her sculpture. Both were awarded gift cards to the Joliet Junior College bookstore — Angulo, $100, and Leeth, $50. For this competition, students from 12 area high schools submitted a total of 53 pieces, which were judged by a group of the school's visual arts faculty. The exhibit can be viewed virtually here.
