Penguins Donate Food From Canceled Games To Charity

PITTSBURGH, PA — With the National Hockey League on hiatus until after Christmas because of COVID-19-releated issues, the Penguins and concessionaire company Aramark donated food and beverage items from two canceled games to 412 Food Rescue. The items included fresh fruit, vegetables, produce, meats and cheeses. 412 Food Rescue, which has partnered with the Penguins and Aramark for two years, works with food retailers, volunteer providers and nonprofit organizations to connect surplus food with individuals and families who are experiencing food insecurity. "We generally donate to them at least once a week, and it's mostly food that goes unused after games," said Nick Fenton, Aramark general manager, said in a news release. "Obviously, this was a little different. Even though we had been given some notice that the games are getting postponed, we do still have a lot of food that we will not be able to save or use for an upcoming event. So this is definitely a larger food donation than it normally is to 412 Food Rescue." 412 Food Rescue delivered the food to Shepherd's Heart Fellowship & Veteran's Home about a 10-minute walk from PPG Paints Arena. "It's all stuff that I think will honestly make someone's holiday a little bit better," Fenton said.
