Description
LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School is closed Wednesday due to a sharp increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases within the building, school officials said. Extracurricular activities are also on pause, according to the school.
Wednesday is the end of the first semester for the school, and was the last day of classes before winter break, according to the school calendar.
According to data from the school, as of Wednesday, there are 101 active positive cases, and 12 people are also excluded from school due to being a close contact.
There have been 109 confirmed positive cases for the month of December, according to the school website.
Lemont is not the first high school in the area to cancel classes due to rising coronavirus case numbers. Evanston Township High School announced last week that it would transition to e-learning until January due to rising case numbers at the school.
