LEMONT, IL — Four Lemont High School students were honored with December student of the month accolades at the district's Board of Education meeting on Dec. 20. The school said honorees were senior Regan Notter (Social Studies), junior Brooklyn Garon (Center for Academic Vision & Excellence), sophomore Alexander Fako (English) and freshman Adam Mustafa (Industrial Technology). Each month, Lemont High School honors a student from each grade level for hard work and dedication to the school and the community, the school said. Selections rotate among the school's various departments from month to month. Only 32 students earn student of the month accolades each school year, with four individuals honored each month from October through May. Local businessman Brad Grcevic, of Edward Jones, Inc., contributes a donation each month to a charity selected by the student of the month award winners. This month's winners selected #EllieStrong Forever to receive the donation, the school said. Lemont High School provided information on the student award winners: Adam Mustafa, Freshman, Industrial Technology Adam Mustafa was cited as the Freshman Student of the Month by the Industrial TechnologyDepartment. Adam lists AP Human Geography and Orientation to Industrial Technology as his favorite classes. His teachers applaud him for always striving to be his best, whether he is working on solo projects or tackling a challenge as part of a team, the school said. He focuses on the task at hand and does not get distracted. Adam is a good classmate who makes each moment in class count. He was a member of the boys' cross country team in the fall and plans on joining the boys' track and field team in the spring. A recipient of the President's Award for Academic Excellence in middle school, Adam plans to attend a four-year university and major in business. He enjoys running in his free time. Alexander Fako, Sophomore, English The English Department selected Alexander Fako as the Sophomore Student of the Month. A highhonor roll student, Alexander most enjoys Cinema Studies and mathematics courses. He is a member of the Mathletes and boys' cross country teams and earned induction to the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. He is described as a standout student in both Cinema Studies and Communications. The school said said Alexander's passion for film is evident; each film is better than the next in Cinema Studies, and he has shined in Communications class giving speeches about film. He was tabbed as winner of the school's Silent Film Fest and has written four feature length screenplays. In the future, he plans to pursue a career as a screenwriter or director. In his spare time, Alexander watches movies and works at Nancy's Pizza. Brooklyn Garon, Junior, Center for Academic Vision and Excellence (CAVE) Brooklyn Garon was chosen as the Junior Student of the Month by the Center for Academic Visionand Excellence. Brooklyn is a high honor roll student who most enjoys AP Language & Composition and other English classes. She is a National English Honor Society inductee and is active in both Interact and Student Council. Brooklyn excels as an English tutor in the CAVE, from helping Freshman Academy students with life skills and organizational techniques to communicating with DHH students using sign language, the school said. Her take charge attitude and willingness to work with all students makes her an invaluable asset. Brooklyn hopes to change nutrition policies in public schools and help create a healthier community. She babysits and works at Wooden Paddle, and likes reading, journaling, working out, and watching sunsets with friends. Regan Notter, Senior, Social Studies The Social Studies Department tabbed Regan Notter as the Senior Student of the Month. A high honor roll recipient, Regan's current favorite classes include College Writing and Anatomy & Physiology Honors. She is described as a responsible student who takes initiative, leads by example, and always is respectful of her fellow students, the school said. Regan displays a true passion for helping others and is an outstanding role model for her peers on how to treat others with patience, empathy and compassion. Regan plans on attending Joliet Junior College next year before integrating into nursing school. She is most proud of her recent promotion to Assistant Manager of Used Car Sales at BMW/MINI of Orland Park while also earning the best grades of her career. Regan enjoys spending time with her sisters and works as a babysitter.
