5 Los Angeles Parks To Split More Than $30M In State Funds

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles will have a new park and four renovated parks with the announcement of state park funding being distributed across California. The funding is part of a $548.3 million investment to expand parks across the state — the single-largest ever in California history. The city of Los Angeles is receiving about $23.7 million for these improvements and the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust will receive $6.9 million. Green Meadows Recreation Center Park on E 89th Street will receive $6.93 million for improvements including a new soccer field, two basketball courts with lighting, a playground area, a renovated baseball field, and public art. Hazard Park on Norfolk Street will receive $8.27 million for improvements including a new amphitheater, four playgrounds, a splash pad, a dog park, public art, a restroom building, and a parking lot. The ballfields will be renovated as well as the recreation center and two picnic/BBQ areas. Sixth Street Viaduct PARC will be a new park constructed on both sides of the LA river. An $8.5 million grant will create a new urban forest, skatepark, play fields, two dog parks, paths for walking and jogging, and a restroom building. The Watts Towers Arts Center on East 107th Street will receive $4.5 million for a campus expansion, including an outdoor classroom and amphitheater, a labyrinth health and wellness walk, a lawn and play area with an overlook of Watts Towers, and public art. The 11th Avenue Park will also be renovated; $2.4 million has been granted for two new playgrounds and three picnic areas, an exercise area, an amphitheater with public art, and a basketball area.
