Description

DARIEN, IL — A carjacking took place last week in the parking lot at Darien's Walmart, 2189 75th St., police said. About 8:30 p.m. Dec. 14, a man blocked a 67-year-old woman's car with a cart, opened the car door, pulled out the woman and drove away with the car, police said. No weapon was used. The loss was estimated at $6,000. The suspect was described as white and wearing a black jacket with a hood and silver jogging pants with a logo on the right leg. In an interview with Patch, Police Chief Greg Thomas said he believed this was the first carjacking in Darien in his six years with the department. Many of the carjackings in the suburbs are done by a group from Chicago, but this carjacking appears to be a "one-off" because the suspect's description and method of operations do not match carjackings in nearby towns, police said. Earlier this month, Burr Ridge police reported a carjacking in the middle of the day in the village's downtown shopping district. One of the suspects was arrested days later.
