Do you work in the restaurant industry?

Description

If you are someone who has worked, or is currently working in the restaurant business, specifically as a waiter, host, busboy, cook, dishwasher or even a manager/supervisor, I’d like to get your feedback on working in any of those positions. As you know, since Covid and the re-emergence of Covid and the other variants, the restaurant business has/is getting hit with a vast number of employees walking away from the job, not showing up and ghosting interviews. This has led to a splurge of restaurants desperately putting out help wanted ads with very little to show for their efforts and in some cases, simply shutting down. For those who work in the restaurant, it can be pretty challenging for a variety of reasons: Being called into work on a day off; working a double shift when you’re not up to it; getting shafted on some tips or shitty customers, no work-life balance and working on a slow day with very little tips/money. For people who are busboys, cooks, hosts, or even managers, the pay is usually not that good nor are the benefits. Just to be clear, I'm not referring to franchises like McDonald's, Wendy's or Chick-fil-A as examples. Why am I asking you these questions, you ask? Well, I've worked as a recruiter with different agency's and firmly believe there is not enough focus on the rights of employees, especially in the restaurant industry. I'm interested in knowing what the restaurant worker is actually looking for, ideally, in a job and ensuring they meet with an employer that understands the value of the employee they hire. That includes: Safety, culture, benefits, better pay, work environment, having a voice, respect from owners, integrity and a host of other variables that generally are not on the table for people in this industry. So please, tell me what is working or not for you as a restaurant worker. This is more like a survey so don't provide personal information. Just reply through Craigslist. If you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them if I can. Thanks in advance. For example: 1. what are some things you think could make your job easier? 2. As waitstaff, busboy, cook, manager, dishwasher, host or any position in the restaurant, are there any benefits you’d like to see? If so, what would they be? 3. How would you like to be paid? Tips only. Tips and gratuity. A higher wage with no tips Gratuity only? Or, both? 4. What kind of culture would you like to work in? 5. What are some expectations you would have about your immediate supervisor, boss, manager or owner/s? You may have other concerns you'd like to share. My goal is to be able to match you with the kind of employer that can identify the value you bring to their business, and would be willing to pay for it. Your input is greatly appreciated!
