All Newt wants is love. He used to be a working, outside only, cattle dog. He is learning what it's like to be loved, to be inside, on the couch, in the bed, not having to scrounge for food. He's learned to take treats. He is great with all people, children any other dogs, but doesn't know how to play yet. He is not at all aggressive. He is, however, obsessed with cats, 24/7 he gets as close as possible, stands motionless and stares. It is impossible to do anything with Newt when there is a cat in sight. No cats. Small dogs are fine. He had a hip injury that's been healed for more than a year. He runs like the wind, loads up in the car, gets on the bed, the couch! But doesn't try to jump over my 3ft picket fence, and isn't that ball crazy kind of hyper border collie. We take one long walk a day, let Newt run free in the fields, he has excellent recall. He is extremely obedient. Extremely biddable. Could train him to do anything. He obeys instantly to any command and learns quickly. He's learned "personal space, Newt", "no touching", "leave it", "heel" without a leash even! He now will eat in the same room as my other (bossy) dog, as long as I stand guard. He's putting on weight and his fur is getting softer and longer! He loves being pet, cuddling, sleeping at your feet, or trying to press himself into your face! Loves car rides, especially to the dog park. He sleeps all night in his crate, to give the cat a break and help with housebreaking. Goes right in, doesn't make a noise. In fact he doesn't make any noise, no barking, heard a small whine a couple times. I would love if the new owner would keep Newt with Hannah the Pet Society in Tigard, so any future needed medical care would be free. I want to know he won't ever have to worry about being taken care of. His hip injury could require arthritis and pain meds when he's older. The amount to Hannah would be $78/mo, it will never go up. Pays for everything except food and flea treatment. Including unlimited training classes, behavioural consultants, surgeries, meds, unlimited visits, tests, vaccines, emergencies.
