Age: ≥ 13 Workshop Description: • How soap is made: Saponification is “kitchen chemistry” • Safety on how to handle lye (caustic soda) • Equipment and supplies to make soap safely at home • How to calculate the proportions of soap ingredients • Making fragrant and colorful cold process soap Materials & Supplies: • Balance • Immersion blender• Plastic container to mix oil and lye (DO NOT USE ALUMINUM)• Heat resistant glass jar to mix lye and water • Olive oil – Sunflower oil – Coconut oil …• Lye: Sodium Hydroxide (99% pure)• Essential oil for fragrance. • Food colorant • Nitrile Gloves and safety goggles.
