Description
We are hosting a multi-location combined climbing comp for all youth climbers! This will double as the Team Texas Tryout. This climbing competition is for all youth climbers from Team Summit to Team Texas! Climbers will compete throughout the weekend in the disciplines of speed, bouldering, and ropes! Registration includes a raffle ticket and t-shirt* for each competitor. This event will also serve as the 2022 Winter Team Texas Tryout. *T-shirts are limited so they will be given on a first come first serve basis, based on signup time COMPETITION INFORMATATIONClimbers must complete in all three disciplines: bouldering, ropes, and speedThis competition will be in an onsight format for bouldering and ropes. Climbers will also get two speed runs. Awards will take place on Sunday, January 9th at the Plano location shortly after climbing concludes around 12PM. VOLUNTEERVolunteer signup information will be available soon and sent out to all competitors! CATEGORIESDIFFICULTY (Advanced/Recreational)Athletes will choose whether they want to compete in the Recreational category or the Advanced category. All Team Texas climbers are required to compete in the Advanced category. Climbers in Team Summit, other teams, and climbers not affiliated with any team can choose. Competitors in all recreational categories and in advanced category 1-2 will compete on top rope, and advanced category 3 and 4 will compete on lead. If you chose to be in advanced 3 or 4, you will be required to lead climb (should already be lead certified) and climb on the IFSC speed route. You do not have to climb in advanced to be evaluated for Team Texas. If you have questions about which difficulty category your climber should compete in, reach out to your coach! GENDER (M/F)Then they will be broken up by gender (male/female). AGE (C1, C2, C3, C4)And finally, by age category from youngest to oldest: Category 1: Born in 2011 or later (Youth D) Category 2: Born in 2009 or 2010 (Youth C) Category 3: Born in 2007 or 2008 (Youth B) Category 4: Born in 2003-2006 (Youth A/JR) COMPETITION FORMATOnce you arrive at the gym you will be put in isolation, phones are not allowed into ISO. You will have a check-in start/end time and you MUST arrive before check-in ends (read below for your categories session). Running order for climbers will be released through email to all competitors on 1/7/22BOULDERINGBouldering will follow an onsight format. On Saturday 1/8, at the Carrollton location, each category has been assigned a session. You will have 4 boulders with 4 minutes to climb each boulder and 4 minutes of rest in between each climb. Your bouldering score is calculated by the following: tops, zones, attempts to top and attempts to zone. ROPESRopes will follow an onsight/flash format hybrid. On Sunday 1/9, at Summit Plano, each category has been assigned a session. You will have 1 route with 6 minutes to climb. SPEEDThe speed portion of the comp will follow the rope climbing portion on Sunday 1/9. Each climber will get 2 speed runs, scoring will be done based off of the faster of the two. Adv 3/ 4 will compete on the official IFSC speed route. All Rec and Adv. 1/2 will compete on a non IFSC route. Team Texas Athletes who competed in the USAC 2021 National Championship are exempt from re-trying out. If you are not currently on Team Texas and would like to be evaluated for the tryout, select YES when prompted in the checkout process.Team Texas tryouts happen in 1-3 tiers. This tryout will serve as the 1st tier, and your child may receive an automatic invitation OR a 2nd tier tryout invitation. Decision emails will be sent via email in the week following the competition. IMPORTANT: This is NOT a USAC sanctioned event and will not count towards any USAC qualification.
