Band Beyond Description Crazy Horse Presents 21+ Band Beyond Description bring together a rotating cast of Grateful Dead specialist to harvest the nectar from the most majestic songbook. The Third Thursday tradition turns over on another calendar year and reminds us how lucky we are to have an event like this every month in our little town. Band Beyond Description is a community pow wow which has been happening for several years now at the Crazy Horse. The local Deadhead contingent has been known to refer to it as “church.” It all begins with the cosmic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - Jonny Mojo (Achilles Wheel) on guitar and vocals and Gary Campus (Deadbeats) on drums. Rumors of telepathic communication are true. How else do they follow each other to the far reaches of the sonic galaxy? Each month they bring together a rotating cast of the area’s elite Grateful Dead specialists to harvest the nectar from the most majestic songbook known to humankind. If we told you about all that went down, well, you know…. This time around they will be joined by two aces who have rocked the house on multiple occasions in the past. Matt Hartle (China Cats) is a grandmaster Garcia medium who paints notes like watercolors and slices through the mix like a surgical lightning strike. He and Mojo have such a deep musical bond based on an insatiable desire to coax each other into uncharted terrain on a regular basis. Mojo/Hartle is like a drug of its own. Of course we’re going to need some low end groove mastery to round out the quartet and Jen Rund will be dishing that out on bass. Her knowledge is bred from time spent studying with gods of the instrument - Victor Wooten and Kai Eckhardt. She has shared the stage with Coco Montoya, Mark Clark, Stu Allen, Barry Sless, Mark Karan and many more. Not only that, but she is so fun to watch with her infectious smile and bouncy dance-inducing grooves. Band Beyond’s permanent special guest is none other than Tim High. Doubling as our sound engineer, “Mighty High” is truly one of the most heart-rendering vocalists in Nevada County. He gives everything he has to each performance. He loves taking on the challenge of digging for the deep cuts that he’s never sang before. But also kills it on staples like “Brown Eyed Women” or “Sugaree.” Thanks in advance for coming out and supporting what is truly one of the most legendary Grateful Dead tribute events in the country.
