The McAllen Wind Ensemble performs music from America's past and present, from sea to shining sea, from Sousa to Willie Owens. The McAllen Wind Ensemble performs music from America's past and present, from sea to shining sea, from Sousa to Willie Owens. On their February 8th program, A Celebration of American Music, the McAllen Wind Ensemble pays tribute to America past and present. At the end of the 1800s, there were thousands of community bands in the United States, having emerged from the military bands of the Civil War. Former soldiers playing military marches were common in these groups. Today, the Ensemble has evolved into professional musicians with access to the latest compositions. The program for "A Celebration of American Music" will feature the music of Sousa, King, Copland, and Irving Berlin, as well as the modern composers Barnes, Holsinger, John Williams, and Willie Owens.
