Free Rapid Coronavirus Tests In Framingham: How To Get One

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham will soon begin distributing an allotment of free rapid COVID-19 tests, part of an effort to boost testing amid a wider surge in coronavirus cases. Framingham is one of about 102 communities in Massachusetts getting rapid tests made by iHealth from the state. Each kit contains two tests, which means about 20,000 of Framingham's 74,000 residents will have access to one. Like other communities, Framingham is aiming to give tests to low-income residents. Over-the-counter tests for sale at pharmacies can cost up to $25 and are often sold out. According to a news release, Framingham will begin distributing the free tests next week, with about half of the rapid tests going to organizations that serve low-income residents. On Thursday beginning at 1 p.m., residents can visit the city's website to fill out a form to receive a test. On the form, residents will have to attest to being in financial hardship. Only Framingham residents will be able to get a test. "Once tests have been assigned, the form will be closed. An electronic communication will be sent via email, including details for picking up your test kit. Submission of the form DOES NOT guarantee a test kit. You will need to bring and show a copy of the email verification and proof of residency at the time of collection," the city said in a news release. Residents who want to get a PCR style test, which health officials say are more accurate than rapid tests, can visit the walk-up site at St. Tarcisius Parish on Thursday.
