Here are the top five stories in Laurel today: According to Patch reporter Kristin Danley-Greiner, a local man died after his vehicle hit St. Vincent Pallotti High School on Monday night. He was alone in the vehicle. The Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad extricated Jackie Wayne Fulcher from the vehicle then he was taken to an area hospital where he died. (Laurel Patch) A Laurel man has been arrested for an armed robbery of a bank. The Laurel Police Department responded to the 900 block of Fairlawn Avenue for a report of an armed robbery on Monday morning. The suspect, 27-year-old Christopher Mitchell, admitted to the crime as he was approached by officers. (wmar2news.com) Maryland officials are urging all eligible residents to get booster shots as soon as possible because the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus is becoming more dominant. Governor Larry Hogan recently said the state of Maryland has surpassed 10 million COVID-19 vaccinations administered. Despite this, on Sunday, the Maryland Department of Health showed 1,257 patients hospitalized with COVID-19. This state has seen a total of 11,022 deaths the virus during the pandemic. (Yahoo News) Gov. Larry Hogan, who is fully vaccinated and received a booster vaccine, has tested positive for the Coronavirus. He initially tested positive on a routine rapid test, a result that was confirmed Monday night. Hogan said he was "feeling fine at the moment" and is only suffering from "some cold-like symptoms" at this point. (Baltimore Sun)The COVID-19 surge in Prince George's County is coming into view as Maryland's database recovers from a cyberattack from earlier this month. County Executive Angela Alsobrooks reported on what Prince George's is likely experiencing. She said that Maryland has experienced an increase of 28,341 cases since Dec. 3. This caused the state's positivity rate to jump from 5.4% to nearly 10.3% as of Dec. 20.
