The Tech Set program will support 200 participants, create 100 internship opportunities, and place 100 graduates into full-time jobs. The program is open both to students at Marymount and other schools. Students must be eligible for Pell Grants to be a part of the Tech Set program, highlighting a focus on helping students from low-income backgrounds prepare for technology careers. The two-month program will focus on preparing students with technology and career skills that they will need to succeed in the workplace. Technology skills are necessary, but not sufficient for students entering the workforce. Employers are looking for interpersonal skills and professional competencies in their evaluation of candidates' career readiness. A key goal of the Tech Set program is for participants to gain these skills during their studies so that they can hit the ground running when they join the workforce. The Virginia Growth and Opportunity Board (GO Virginia) has invested $425,000 in the launch of the Tech Set program, coordinated through GO Virginia Region 7, the regional initiative to increase local job opportunities and develop Northern Virginia as a leading region for technology startup growth and development. Marymount is also recruiting corporate partners to commit to interviewing Tech Set graduates for internships and entry-level jobs. Corporate partners are also contributing funding for $500 stipends that Tech Set graduates can apply to purchases to prepare them to enter the workforce.
