SUMMIT, NJ — Summit's Volunteer First Aid Squad has been serving the city for almost 60 years and is reaching out to neighbors for help staying afloat this year. The organization wrote a letter to neighbors asking for support in the latest fundraiser. The letter is below: Whenever you or someone you love needs help, the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad is here for you. Now we need your support. For nearly 60 years, the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad has provided high quality emergency medical services to the people of Summit. Most of our members live—or have lived—in Summit, and we are deeply committed to this community. Our volunteers stand ready to answer the call 365 days a year, through heatwaves and hurricanes, power outages and snowstorms, and yes, even an ongoing pandemic. But we can't keep doing it without you. Our annual fundraising drive continues, and it accounts for most of our revenue each year. Because we are all volunteers, we can provide top notch service at an extremely low cost. However, we must buy all the equipment and supplies we use in our work, from baby aspirin to defibrillators, N95 masks to oxygen monitors, and step stools to stair chairs. We also must buy big-ticket items like power stretchers and ambulances, which can run more than $200,000. The people of this great City have stood by us for decades and allowed us to carry out our mission. The last 18 months have made abundantly clear just how critical that mission is, and how dedicated we are to fulfilling it. Please donate to the Squad online today at summitems.org or by mailing a check in the return envelope. We continue to be grateful for your generosity and motivated by the trust you place in us.
