School Counselor In Newark Accused Of Touching Student's Penis

NEWARK, NJ — An attendance counselor in the Newark Public School District has been accused of touching a student's groin, authorities announced Monday. James D. Rone-Lewis, 31, of Newark, was arrested and charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the Newark Police Department. "It is alleged that on or about October 21, Rone-Lewis brought a student into his office at Avon Avenue Elementary School in Newark and touched the child's penis," prosecutors stated. Rone-Lewis was taken into custody last week. He has been suspended without pay, and is barred from any contact with the victim or the school. Rone-Lewis has been released on pretrial monitoring pending disposition of the charges, authorities said. Prosecutors released a photo of Rone-Lewis, which can be seen below.
