JOLIET, IL — An unwanted guest threatened to push a Joliet police officer over a second-floor motel railing, the Joliet Police Department said in a news release. On Saturday evening, Joliet officers were called to a Motel 6 at 1850 McDonough Street to remove an alleged trespasser after he caused multiple disturbances, according to the release. When police arrived, Christopher Esbensen, 31, of Bolingbrook, allegedly began yelling insults at the police and refusing to listen to their commands. Police say that Esbensen "rushed at an officer" and threatened to push him over the railing. When officers attempted to take him into custody, police say he swung at an officer with a closed fist and struck the officer's arm. Police say they then deployed a Taser, but Esbensen continued to struggle. Esbensen was arrested and transported to Will County Adult Detention Facility on probable cause of aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated assault to a police officer, obstructing justice, resisting an officer, and criminal trespassing.
