Beaverton Mayor Beaty Calls Out Lobbying Official, Forcing Ouster

BEAVERTON, OR — On Friday, Beaverton Mayor Lacey Beaty wasn't trying to oust Mike Cully, the executive director of the League of Oregon Cities when she quoted a tweet of his and added a message. But by Monday, Cully had deleted his Twitter account and resigned his position. It started when Cully tweeted out his policy on tipping fast food workers – he doesn't. "Just so there's no misunderstanding – I don't tipnfor (sic) fast food. That's what your paycheck is for. Dissatisfied? Get an education and a better job." While Cully would delete it, Beaty had a screenshot of it and tweeted it out with her own message. "If you don't want to tip during a global pandemic you should make your food at home," she wrote. Beaty then went back to Twitter to let her followers know that Cully had responded and clearly wasn't happy with her. "I would share the DMs he has been sending me, but Twitter would block them for language," she wrote. Among the language he used to describe her are bully and weak. He added that she has "NO SOUL." Beaty then filed a complaint with the league, which is an organization that lobbies on behalf of its members, cities and municipalities throughout Oregon. While he then posted a note that said, "In the strongest way possible, I apologize to the Mayor." It wasn't enough to save his job. He deleted his Twitter account and then resigned at a special LOC meeting on Monday night.
