Description

Located in Joliet, IL, MorningStar Mission is a shining star in the community, not only during the holidays, but all year round. MorningStar Mission serves as an essential lifeline for homeless people, veterans, men, women and children who are in crisis, facing financial distress or personal hardships. The volunteer not-for-profit organization is literally the difference between life and death for many individuals. The mission is the glue holding life intact for many people. MorningStar Mission's services are vital to the community. The faith-based organization is non-denominational in their approach to providing much-needed assistance to anyone who is in need. The organization owns and operates an Emergency Men's Shelter, a Women and Family Center, a Men's Recovery Facility and a Homeless Veteran's Home. MorningStar Mission is now planning on expanding their outreach by working with several community agencies to open a day care center, after-school program, summer day camp and permanent supportive housing at the 1350 S. Briggs St. property (formerly the Smith YMCA). The mission is planning to build a commercial kitchen in the current building to support these programs. The staff has been working with DCFS to ensure the space will meet state certification requirements which will enable them to apply for state funding and grants. The mission will be applying for a "special use" permit from the City of Joliet in January 2022 and if all goes as planned, they will be applying for a building permit shortly after. For more information, or if you know someone who could benefit from the service MorningStar Mission can provide, or if you would like to get involved to support or to volunteer, call (815) 722-5780 or Email: [email protected].
