Altadena Sheriff's Station Gets A Funding Boost

ALTADENA, CA — The Altadena Sheriff's Station will be getting a little extra funding this holiday season to combat crime in unincorporated parts of Los Angeles County. The funding was announced Thursday by L.A. County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, who allocated $1 million from her discretionary budget to several sheriff's stations. The Altadena, Crescenta Valley, Lancaster, Malibu/Lost Hills, Palmdale, San Dimas, Santa Clarita Valley and Temple stations will receive the funds. The rise in smash-and-grab robberies targeting retailers in the county prompted the funding boost, Barger said in a statement. "The recent smash-and-grab crime wave and various robberies are proof that criminals feel bold and untouchable — crimes are increasingly committed in the public eye," she said. "These funds will help provide more law enforcement patrols and presence in the communities I represent." L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva lauded Barger's move in a statement. "During a time when crime rates are up, this funding will contribute to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's tireless efforts towards keeping the public safe in the Fifth District," he said.
