Summary: The Bicycle Builder position prioritizes, schedules and completes bike and wheel builds prior to shipment. Duties and Responsibilities: • Prioritize, schedule, complete bike or custom wheel builds based upon sales demand and finished inventory. • Assemble, troubleshoot, and check to ensure proper and safe functioning of bicycles. • Carefully disassemble and prepare bicycles for shipment or transfer to the local shop. • Follow internal build checklists and vendor assembly instructions. • Ability to identify and communicate any manufacturing issues that could arise in an unsafe experience for the customer. • As needed, provide product or technical support to Customer Service Department. Physical Demands/Work Environment: • Regularly lift and/or move 10-50 lbs. • Regularly stand, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk. Frequently walk, sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch. • Vision requirements: Close (clear vision at 20 inches or less), Distance (clear vision at 20 feet or more), Peripheral (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point). • Moderate Noise (examples: Distribution Center activity, fans). Skills and Education/Experience • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of bicycle mechanics and technology. • Assembling or repairing complete bicycles. • Adjusting moving components including, but not limited to, braking, shifting, bearings, and pedaling. • Prior experience with wheel repairs, truing or building. • Language skills: Basic skills required; Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations, to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. • Mathematical skills: Basic skills required; Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. • Reasoning Ability: Basic skills required; Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. • Ability to work in a fast-paced, growing business environment. • Professional organizational skills. • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment. • Must be available for work 40 hours per week. • Attention to detail a must. • No Degree Required.
