Position Job Title: Landscaping & Cleaning Assistant Reports To: Landscaping and Maintenance Supervisor Hours: 20-30 hours/wk depending on weather – hours can be flexible for the right candidate Job Types: Part-time, Temporary Feb-Nov based on needs Rate: $15.55 Benefits: Paid holidays, Paid Sick Leave The Downtown Bellingham Partnership (DBP) is a nonprofit organization that serves as the primary champion for Downtown Bellingham as a prime business, cultural, educational, residential, and retail destination. The Partnership's diverse activities include improving the environment for existing businesses; assisting with the creation of public spaces and streetscapes that promote an active and cohesive community. Responsibilities Landscaping: Routine landscape maintenance such as upkeep of inground beds, leaf collection, planting, watering, weeding, removing and replacing dead plants, removing fallen branches from planters. Cleaning: Support litter pick up, public street furniture cleaning and other general cleaning needs of Downtown, as directed by supervisor Daily - Assessment of all areas for plant health, vandalism, trash - Weeding, trash and leaf collection, watering as needed - Cleaning of hardscape & public street furniture Weekly/Monthly - Work with Landscaping Supervisor to implement planting plans - Assist with the installation and removal of hanging baskets in the downtown landscape area - Maintenance and daily care of landscaped areas - Remove leaves from sidewalks, keeping street drains free of debris Other Duties: Other tasks may be assigned as requested by Landscaping and Maintenance Supervisor on an as needed basis. Required Qualifications - Ability to understand and comply with instruction (written and verbal) as well as good communication skills. - Current, valid Washington State driver’s license - Ability to lift 50+ lbs easily. - Previous experience with landscaping and/or nursery work - Knowledge of perennial and annual plant care - Flexibility to accommodate tasks related to changing weather and seasons Preferred Qualifications - Knowledge of basic maintenance and carpentry - Experience with small power tools - Previous experience of landscaping, maintenance and/or cleaning in public areas, facilities, etc. Note: This position has the chance to turn permanent for the right candidate and depending on workloads.
