John Tropea was originally scheduled, but his shoulder is preventing him from gigging at the moment, so instead the evening will be filled with the sounds of The Jones Factor! The Jones Factor Lite is a 6 piece version of the very popular10 piece Jones Factor little big band. The Jones Factor was formed in 1986 by trombonist and bandleader John Fumasoli. Looking for something smaller than a big band, and larger than his trombone septet, which featured Eddie Bert and a teenager named Joey Calderazzo, Fumasoli decided to embark on a project that can best be described as “front burner/back burner” with the instrumentation of a pared-down big band, and the addition of French horn. Early on the group had a steady Wednesday night gig in Stamford Ct. for nearly two years at a place called Pauline’s, on Atlantic St. and the venue was a great room for musicians and writers including Lonnie Smith and Melvin Sparks. The Jones Factor (at the time called the Jazz Collective) welcomed numerous writers and musicians and was a collective for musicians in the area for performing, writing, and networking. Towards the end of the stint at Pauline's, trumpeter Tony Kadleck brought his original chart to the band “The Jones Factor” hence the name change. Over the years the book has grown to over a hundred charts covering many different styles including Bop, Hard Bop, Latin, Blues, Funk, and Hip Hop. The unique instrumentation allows for a great variety of textures, colors, and sounds and the diversity of its players makes for exciting performances. The Jones Factor has put out two CD’s “Collective Jazz” and “Blast From the Past” and is completing its third recording "The Time is Now". The Jones Factor, a dynamic performing ensemble that it is, draws its players from diverse musical backgrounds who are equally at home playing just about anything as their credits show. Those credits include; The Village Vanguard Orchestra, Woody Herman Orchestra, Gerry Mulligan, Roland Vasquez, Rufus Reid, Grady Tate, Cornell Dupree, Claudio Roditi, Will Lee, Randy Brecker, Kenwood Dennard, Donald Harrison, Nancy Wilson, B. B. King, Dianne Reeves, Tito Puente, Frank Sinatra, Bill Evans, Jean Luc-Ponty, Kenny Garrett, Tony Bennett, Bobby McFerrin, the Maria Schneider Orchestra, NYC Opera, NYC Ballet, N.J. Symphony, Steely Dan, Elton John, Smokey Robinson, Dianna Ross, and the Average White Band to name a few! John Fumasoli, Trombone, Composer, Arranger, Bandleader (The Four Tops, Johnny Mathis, Sammy Davis Jr.) Trombonist, bandleader, and teacher, John Fumasoli has performed with such artists as; Gerry Mulligan, Tony Bennett, Cab Calloway, John Tropea, The Rippingtons, The Gil Evans Band, Diana Ross, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Johnny Mathis, Sammy Davis Jr., and many others. In addition, Mr. Fumasoli has recorded with; The Average White Band, Bobby Baldwin, Robbie Dupree, Jeff Golub, Marion Meadows, Jose’ Feliciano, Shelby Lynn, Brian Torff’s New Duke, and as a leader with his own group, The Jones Factor. He has over 35 Karaoke albums for Pocket Records to his credit and has done T.V. and radio jingles including; Montel Williams, Westinghouse, Nabisco Air Thins, Comedy Night America, and Connecticut National Bank. Mr. Fumasoli’s teaching experience includes over thirty years in The Fairfield Public Schools as a band director, and in addition, he has been on the faculty of Fairfield University for the past twenty-five years where he teaches jazz history. Rhythm Section Line Up Rob Aries - Pianist (Average White Band, Bill Evans, Liza Minelli) Rob Aries toured and recorded with artists such as guitarist John Scofield, the "world jazz" group Special EFX, R&B band Change, saxophonist Bill Evans, Brazilian pianist Eliane Elias, and singers Liza Minnelli, Melba Moore, and Freddie Jackson. He also produced and co-wrote several songs on saxophonist Donald Harrison's CTI release "The Power of Cool", and played and composed for the late saxophonist Cornelius Bumpus’s CD "Known Fact" on Palmetto Records. Rob currently tours with the Average White Band. Dave Anderson - bass (Smokey Robinson, Blood Sweat & Tears) Dave Anderson has toured with Bill Evans, Special EFX, Art Garfunkel, Smokey Robinson, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Regina Carter, Joe Beck, and numerous others. He’s appeared on over seventy-five commercial recordings as a session musician. Dave operates Flying Squirrel recording studio and is currently underway engineering and co-producing new material with The Jones Factor for the band’s upcoming release “The Time is Now”. Tyger MacNeal - Drums (Rosemary Clooney, The Four Tops, Jose Feliciano) Connecticut-based drummer, "Tyger" MacNeal has been on the road with Jose Feliciano for about fifteen years now. In 1992, Tyger MacNeal, a solid and versatile drummer of 25 years, joined Jose to tour extensively around the world. Having had performed with others including The Four Tops, The Fifth Dimension, Rosemary Clooney, Billy Eckstein, Freddy Fender, The Shirelles, and Little Anthony, Tyger MacNeal had, at the time, been working with the Average White Band, recording and performing with them throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, and the U.S. So clearly, Tyger was no stranger to the road. He stepped in and has been part of Jose's rhythm section ever since. When at home in Connecticut, Tyger is a member and co-writer for the smooth Jazz group, Private Island. He also maintains a busy freelance schedule as a studio musician, private drum instructor, lyricist, and new father. Don Harris - Trumpet (Michael McDonald, Celine Dion, Michael Bolton) Don Harris began playing trumpet at age 8 and was taking music very seriously by the time he was in high school. By age 16 he was working with a number of local bands and performing with the prestigious Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble of The New England Conservatory of Music. He toured Russia and Finland with this group while only 17. After High School, he moved to Boston and enrolled at the prestigious Berklee College of Music where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Music. He continues to tour along with his brother Bill as The Harris Bros Horns with Jeff Golub, Warren Hill, and Kirk Whalum. Recently The Harris Bros Horns have been busy making records for many of the top names in the world of Smooth Jazz, such as Peter White, Warren Hill, Avenue Blue, Andre Berry, and the Deep Fried Funk Society. Some of the many artists with whom Don has performed or recorded include Bobby Caldwell, Michael McDonald, Tower of Power, Robben Ford, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Ben E. King, Bob James, Celine Dion, The Four Tops, Sister Sledge, James Taylor, Michael Bolton, Paul Shaffer, Spyro Gyra, Will Lee, The Spinners and Phoebe Snow. Bill Harris - Saxophones (Paul Shaffer, The Temptations, Patti Labelle) Bill Harris began his musical training on the clarinet at the age of nine in the small Boston suburb of Topsfield, Massachusetts. He began to get serious about music around the age of 17, at which point he also began playing the saxophone and flute. Sure that this was the career he wanted to pursue, he enrolled at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, to receive a Bachelor of Music degree as a clarinet major. During his freshman year of college, Bill heard the Woody Herman Band with its unusual saxophone section of three tenors and one baritone and knew at that moment that sax was to be his instrument. After a year off from school to concentrate on playing the sax, he completed his college studies and moved to New York City where he studied privately with Bob Mintzer of the Yellowjackets. Although playing mostly sax at this time, Bill soon found that there was a demand on the Off-Broadway scene for an R&B sax player who could also play classical clarinet and flute. He made his living in this field for many years performing on such shows as " A My Name is Alice" and "Personals" (two shows written by the creators of HBO's "Dream On" and the hit TV series "Friends"), "Three Guys Naked from the Waist Down" (starring Scott Bakula) and "Angry Housewives." At this time Bill was also active in the studios doing jingle work for such products as "Dawn Dishwashing Detergent," "Pampers," "Ivory Shampoo," "Stroh's Beer" and "Orangina." Bill has more recently been pursuing a career as a soloist and as the other member of the "Harris Bros Horns" with his trumpet player brother, Don Harris. In 2005 Bill released his debut solo CD "THE EXTRA MILE" to rave reviews and is currently performing material from that CD with his latest project, the Bill Harris Quartet. This group is a traditional jazz quartet exploring a more contemporary concept. He is also very busy as a woodwind teacher, teaching both privately and at the University of Bridgeport. Some of the many people Bill has performed or recorded with over the years include: Vocalists: Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban, Norah Jones, Jakob Dylan, Chaka Khan, Joss Stone, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Dr. John, Celine Dion, Natalie Merchant, Bobby Caldwell, Brenda Russell, Jonathan Butler, Bruce Willis, Maxi Priest, Patty Smyth, Robbie Dupree, Isacc Hayes, Sam Moore (Sam & Dave), Jose Feliciano, Kevin Whalum, Sweetpea Atkinson, Henry Butler, Rufus Thomas, Carla Thomas, Vaneese Thomas, Mary Wilson, Percy Sledge, Steven Stills, Patti Labelle, Brian McKnight, Lilias White, Foxy Brown and Faith Evans.
