PORT JEFFERSON, NY—Port Jefferson native Elijah Riley exited Sunday's New York Jets game against the Miami Dolphins on a stretcher, with an immobilized neck, in a major injury scare. The Jets safety was later reported to be doing well, having avoided a possibly catastrophic spine or neck injury. The New York Post reported that Jets coach Robert Saleh said Riley was doing well. "He's good, he checked out fine," he said. "He's got motion, he's got all that stuff." Riley was hurt during the third quarter of the game, and viewers saw him lay motionless on the field at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Riley graduated from Newfield High School in Selden where he won awards as a high school player. The 23-year-old played with the Army at West Point before becoming a free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles. Sunday's game was his fifth starting with the Jets.
