Press release from the City of Oak Creek: 12/20/2021 The Oak Creek Public Library in conjunction with the Greendale Goodwill Workforce Connection Center will host a series of workshops this spring. These workshops will be held on January 4, February 1, March 1, April 5, and May 3 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Technology Training Center located on the second floor of the building. Tuesday, January 4: Resume Building Blocks – Part 1 This workshop is separated into two parts. Part 1 will discuss the first four components of your resume including: Beat the Bots, Contact Section, Career Summary, and Highlight Skills. Learn what to include that makes your resume stand out and work to your advantage. Tuesday, February 1: Resume Building Blocks – Part 2 This workshop is separated into two parts. Part 2 will discuss the next three components of your resume including: Education, Work History/Accomplishments Statements, and the Optional Sections you may choose to include. Learn what are the most important elements to feature on your resume and make it stand out.    Tuesday, March 1: Career Exploration This workshop will look at the many free career exploration tools and how to look for a job using multiple job search boards. Learn the pros and cons of the tools and how to use them efficiently.   Tuesday, April 5: Virtual Interviewing This workshop will go over how to put your best face forward as you conduct your job search and interviews virtually. Learn the do's and don'ts of when you are on camera and how to look and perform your best. Tuesday, May 3: Key Words & the Applicant Tracking System This workshop will review how technology and computer software programs scan and weed out resumes. Make sure you are prepared to know what goes on your resume so that it gets through the system. After each workshop, attendees may schedule a future appointment for one-on-one assistance at the Greendale Goodwill Workforce Connection Center, which includes help creating a personalized resume. This program is intended for patrons age 18+. Registration is recommended. Register starting December 20 by visiting www.oakcreeklibrary.org/events, in person at 8040 S. 6th St., or over the phone by calling 414-766-7900. While programs in this series are currently scheduled to be held in-person, this can change at any time.
