OAK CREEK, WI — Property taxes were mailed out to Oak Creek residents on Dec. 10. For the city's operations portion of the bill, taxes have decreased by 21 cents for every $1000 of property value, according to a news release from the city, but taxes in Oak Creek go beyond just funding police, trash services and public works. For every dollar in taxes that Oak Creek residents pay, 37.8 cents go to the school district, 7.3 cents go to the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, 21 cents go to Milwaukee County, 5 cents go to Milwaukee Area Technical College and 28.9 cents go to the City of Oak Creek, according to the city's news release. Including the dip in the city's tax rate, the combined tax rate for Oak Creek fell by 56 cents for every $1000 in property value in 2021, the city said. "City officials understand that most people do not like to pay taxes, but that taxes are necessary to sustain a high quality of life, safe neighborhoods, quality roads, and nice parks and recreational amenities, among many other services," a news release from the city said. While other homes with other values will have different tax rates, this one would pay about $1,530 in taxes, according to the city.
