MALDEN, MA — A Malden man has been charged in federal court in connection with an armed robbery on Dec. 12. John Schurko, 56, who police initially identified as being from Medford, is accused of robbing the Harvard Market, the U.S. Attorney's office said. He faces a federal charge of interference with commerce by robbery. Authorities said around 8 p.m. on Dec. 12, Schurko entered the store, displayed what appeared to be a black handgun, went around the counter and demanded money from the clerk. He was arrested four days later in a hotel parking lot in Medford, where police found his getaway car, federal authorities said. Police searched the car and found, among other items, a black Airsoft gun that resembled a real gun, the USAO said. Schurko faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
