Press release from the City of Knoxville - Blog: December 16, 2021 At around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to I-40 East near Papermill Drive, where a male pedestrian had been struck by a semi-truck. The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced deceased on the scene. Based on the preliminary investigation, at this time it is believed that the pedestrian was attempting to cross I-40 when he was struck by the tractor trailer, which remained on scene following the collision. The driver of the semi is cooperating with the investigation, and that investigation remains ongoing at this time. KPD Crash Reconstruction personnel are leading that investigation.
